The\u00a0Inauguration Ceremony of Chinese Language Certificate Courses 2022\/ 1st<\/sup> Batch\u00a0was successfully held from 9.00 am onwards on\u00a021st<\/sup> May 2022\u00a0under the patronage of Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu, Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo. Professor Wimal Hewamanage, Director (Sri Lanka) of Confucius Institute, University of Colombo\uff08CIUC), Professor Ma Zhongwu, Director (China) of CIUC, academic and non-academic staff.\u00a0 There were about hundred and fifty students who have attended the ceremony.<\/p>\n The ceremony was commenced with lighting a virtual oil lamp which expresses the blessings for the ceremony and afterwards, followed by the national anthems of Sri Lanka and China. Professor Wimal Hewamanage delivered the welcome speech emphasizing the role of learning a foreign language and culture, and he further stated the necessity of learning Chinese Language due to the importance of Chinese civilization in the world, especially in Asia. As the chief guest, Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu appreciated the students for making the smartest decision to learn Chinese language and encouraged them to make good use of the opportunity to improve and achieve their goals. In addition to all the foregoing, Professor Ma Zhongwu briefly introduced the teaching staff at Confucius Institute and proved that Confucius Institute would provide high-standard Chinese language and cultural education in Sri Lanka.
