The 2nd International Research Symposium on Understanding Chinese Language and Culture (UCLC)-2021 organized by the Confucius Institute of Colombo (CIUC) was held on 16th\u00a0December 2021 via online (zoom) with the participation of Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne, Vice-Chancellor, University of Colombo as the Chief Guest and Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu, Dean of Faculty of Arts as the Guest of Honor. \u00a0The keynote address of UCLC 2021 was delivered by Professor Bu Xiaoji – Dean, Faculty of Humanities at Honghe University who is an\u00a0eminent scholar in the field of Chinese literature. \u00a0He delivered the speech based on the theme of \u201cThe Versatility, Complexity and Innovation of Modern Chinese Culture\u201d. The Chief Guest Senior Professor Chandrika N. Wijeyaratne, Vice-Chancellor, University of Colombo, who symbolically launched the conference proceedings and the Institute annual journal \u201cColombo Journal for Chinese Studies\u201d<\/p>\n
54 local and international abstracts were received for reviewing and after a rigorous evaluation process, 34 abstracts were selected to be published. At the conference, 30 of them were successfully presented under the following three sessions and six tracks \u2013 Teaching Methods: Chinese Language & Culture, Religion, Philosophy & Culture, Chinese Buddhism: Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language, Relations between China and Sri Lanka and Online Teaching & Learning. The sessions were chaired by Sri Lankan and Chinese scholars in the field.<\/p>\n\n\t\t
