Certificate courses are optional courses open to both on- and off-campus students and learners. The courses include “Special Chinese” and “Beginners HSK Chinese A/L” and “Intermediate HSK Chinese A/L”
- Special Chinese
It is composed of preliminary listening, speaking, reading and initial verbal communication skills, which can meet the basic communication needs of daily life, study and general social occasions. They will begin to develop interest and confidence in learning the Chinese language. It will lay the language foundation for further Chinese studies.
- Beginners HSK Chinese A/L
Learners can understand basic language materials related to common personal and daily life.They can retell, recite and copy words or sentences with fair accuracy and can write words or sentences following the example.They will gain introductory Chinese cultural knowledge and begin to develop interest and confidence in learning the Chinese language.
At the end of the course, it is expected that students will be able to understand about 150 Chinese words, some simple sentences and communicate in some situations.
- Intermediate HSK Chinese A/L
Learners can understand and master basic language materials related to common personal and daily life, master basic sentence structures, make simple sentences, provide simple descriptions, and exchange some basic information. They will gain introductory Chinese cultural knowledge, and acquire preliminary cross-cultural competence and international perspectives.
At the end of the course, it is expected that students will be able to understand about 300 Chinese words, some sentences and communicate generally on some daily topics.
