Chinese Bridge Competition 2023 – Preliminary Round
The Confucius Institute at the University of Colombo (CIUC) successfully held the 22nd “Chinese Bridge-The Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign University Students Overseas Preliminary Competition in Sri Lanka on 2nd of May, 2023.
Prof. Chandana Aluthge, Acting Dean of the Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, Mrs. Yunfeng, Director of the Sri Lankan Chinese Culture Center, Mr.Li Hang, Secretary Sri Lankan Chinese Culture Center, Associate Professor Zhang Min, Bandaranaike Center for International Studies, Associate Professor Ma Zhongwu, the Chinese Director of CIUC, Dr. Anuththaradevi Widyalankara, the Sri Lankan Director of CIUC, Dr. Rohitha Abayasekara, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Economics, University of Colombo and CIUC Academic staff and students were actively participated in the event.
Prof. Chandana Aluthge, the Acting Dean of Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo addressed the gathering and expressed his warm wishes to the participants towards their success and he emphasized the importance of learning a foreign language other than the native tongue that will open valuable opportunities in future. Also he conveyed his heartfelt gratitude to the teachers of the CIUC who are working towards the betterment of the students learning Chinese language.
The “Chinese Bridge” competition has become a well-known brand in international cultural exchanges and an important platform for young students worldwide to learn Chinese, understand China, exchange ideas, and strengthen friendships. The preliminary round was made up of two components: Speech and Talent show. Focusing on the specific theme of “One World- One Family”, the contestants expressed their ideas from multiple perspectives based on their own Chinese language learning experience and understanding of Chinese culture. The preliminary round winners will participate in the Final round of the 22nd Chinese Bridge – The Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign University Students Overseas Competition that will be held in Late May.
At the end of the Preliminary round of the competition Dr. Anuththaradevi Widyalankara, Sri Lankan Director of CIUC, announced the winners. Among the total number of 16 students who have registered for the competition, 06 students were selected as winners of the preliminary round who then will be recognized as qualified candidates for the final round. Moreover, she encouraged all contestants to take part in the Chinese Bridge Competition in future considering it as an opportunity to improve their Chinese proficiency further. She wished all contestants good luck and particularly encouraged the qualified candidates to work hard to achieve best results at the grand finale.
