Lantern Festival Celebration 2021 – 25th Feb.

The Confucius Institute, University of Colombo celebrated the Chinese traditional Lantern Festival on the 25th February 2021, with the participation of Senior Prof. Lasantha Manawadu, the Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo.

As the Chief Guest, Senior Prof. Lasantha Manawadu, the Dean, Faculty of Arts addressed the audience and explained the significance of the celebrations of cultural activities of other nations. Also, he mentioned that those activities are good opportunities for all the Sri Lankan students who gathered with that occasion via zoom. Altogether, 42 participants joined us to aware the history and customs of the Lantern festival. Senior Lecturer Mr. Fei Yanhong had a discussion about the Lantern festival.

Prof Wimal Hewamanage Sri Lankan Director, Confucius Institute welcome all the invited guests including Dean, Faculty of Arts, Mr. K.A.S. Edward, Registrar, University of Colombo, Ms. K.S.T.S. Jayasooriya, Bursar, University of Colombo, Mr. P.M.S. Bandara, Deputy Registrar, Faculty of Arts, Ms. Kalhari Perera, Coordinator international office, Ms. Shi Qiao, Chinese coordinator, Confucius Institute and all other academic and administrative staff. Ms. Shi Qiao, Chinese coordinator had a special honorarium to the all the inviters to symbolize the custom of Lantern festival.

At the end of the celebration, all the participants enjoyed the traditional Chinese food, “Tang Yuan” made by the staff of the Confucius Institute of University of Colombo.
